"Hercules" was a Walt Disney Animation Studios that came out during the Disney 'Renaissance.' It starred Tate Donovan as Hercules, with James Woods putting in a hammy appearance as Hades and Danny Devito as Philoctetes.
'Hercules' recounts the tale of the son of the Greek God, Zeus. Zeus was loves his child, but Hercules is turned into a half-god, half-mortal by evil Hades, God of the Underworld. Hades has it in for Zeus and wants to take over. Thus, Hercules is raised on Earth by mortals, but he still retains his god-like strength.
Eventually, Hercules discovers his immortal heritage. Zeus tells Hercules that before he can assume his rightful place as a god at Mount Olympus, he must first prove himself to be a true hero.
Hercules thus sets his mind to becoming a famous hero. He enlists the assistance of his friend Pegasus and his personal trainer, Phil the satyr. After that, Hercules battles monsters, Hades and the Titans, but none of this is sufficient to turn him into a true hero. However, he does manage the feat, and it is only his self-sacrifice to rescue his love Meg which enables Hercules to fulfill his goal.
